Sailing the Labrador Sea - from Newfoundland to Greenland

We are enjoying our 3rd full day at sea as we cross the Labrador Sea on our way to Greenland. But oh so busy! Attended the 9AM lecture entitled, “Vikings on the Move” - a continuation of the one from yesterday afternoon - not sure if that one got listed in the blog.

These talks are just 45 minutes long but are chock full of information - it’s like being back in college.

At 10AM we pushed our watches forward yet another half hour so we are now 2 hours ahead of EDT.

Managed to get in a couple of laps on the deck, although much colder today. Then another lecture at 11AM on the “Spectacular landscape of Prince Christian Sound” (Prin Christian Sund), which we will traverse after Nanortalik, Greenland - I think it will be Monday afternoon, it’s a fjord and it will provide some spectacular views.

Lunch, followed by a tour of the Engine Room at 2pm. So impressive the control room for this amazing ship as explained to us by the head engineer.

Then, Betsy headed to the thermal pool, steam room, and snow grotto. Ed decided to read and wander around the ship on his own.

Tried to attend the 4:30 PM port talk on our next two ports - however, by the time we arrived there were no more seats. These talks have been well attended but because of the foggy, cool weather we think more people had nothing to do except go to the port talk. So instead we went and had tea and scones. We will watch the talk on the stateroom tv later.

Our next two ports (Sunday and Monday) are Qaqortoq & Nanortalik, Greenland.  Pronounciation: Qaqortoq (kak-er-took) and Nanortalik (nano-talik). Iceland towns are going to be much harder to pronounce! 🙄

We had some sunshine this morning but it has given way to fog most of the afternoon. We were told that tonight is our first opportunity to possibly view the northern lights; however, today’s fog may get in the way. But there should be more opportunities.
