Breaking up the trip in to two manageable flights is definitely the way to go for us. A direct 10-1/2 hour flight may be fine for some folks but we've found that 5-1/2 hours in a plane is just enough for us. After renting a car, we found our way to Tim and Jacqueline's home. It didn't take too long for Madison to warm up to us - she is such a sweet little girl, very personable with lots of energy and personality.
We spent a busy 4-day weekend going to the beach in Waikiki, enjoying dinner and overnight with Madison while Mommy and Daddy enjoyed a night out to themselves at the Army's Birthday Military Ball, taking a nature walk through the botanical gardens at Waimea Falls, and swimming and playing in the sand at Ko Olina (the Disney Resort). Interesting fact: In Hawaii, all the big resorts such as the Disney Resort, Turtle Bay on the North Shore, etc., are required to allow access for locals to their on-site restaurants as well as access to their beaches. What a smart thing to do!
On Father's Day, before enjoying a cookout on the beach with some of Tim and Jacqueline's friends, we actually spent part of the day in Home Depot picking up supplies for various projects Ed will help Tim complete on their house. So, needless to say, Ed was right at home wandering up and down the aisles in his favorite store.
In between the 4-day weekends (it's worked out nicely for Tim, having just returned from two months of training in CA), we are enjoying some down time just hanging out at their home and playing with Madison either inside or out; or taking a walk to a nearby park- even enjoying a neighborhood pool. As you can imagine - we sleep very well at night!
