This trip to Greece had been on the calendar for almost 2 years when the time finally arrived. And as I said in the beginning, who knew we would still be dealing with masking and testing and restrictions. Knowing we had to continue to test negative throughout the cruise, we wore our masks on the plane, on the ship as we arrived, and continued to do so as much as possible.
We felt a little anti-social at times but I guess that was a better option than contracting Covid and being put off the ship in a Greek port to ride out the infection. But we did chat with a lot of amazing couples during our dinners - they would be at the table 3 - 4 feet away. Most of them had traveled Viking before - some on river cruises and some on their cruise ships. Viking definitely has a crowd of loyal followers.
But, bottom line - we remained healthy and we had an amazing cruise! And our morning routine, which consisted of spitting in a tube before eating or drinking and then having your cabin steward knock on your door around 8:00 a.m. to collect the samples, became second nature! We think only one person on the ship tested positive and that happened right away so I guess their policy is working.
The remains of the wall that surrounded the city of Thessaloniki and the walled-in city at the top (the acropolis)- I had mentioned it in my earlier blog but didn't have the picture to share!
The ship was beautiful - all the amenities you would want, amazing food (yes, we ate too much), and calm seas. We enjoyed afternoon tea a couple of times, mainly for the scones! The pool grill was our go-to place for lunch most days as our tours returned after the World Cafe closed at 2pm. We each enjoyed a massage halfway through the trip. I got wet a couple of times in the pool (it was not that warm) and enjoyed the thermal suite once, where the pool is heated and bubbly and amazing. Ed had to stay away due to his recent knee replacement - no hot tubs for awhile for fear of infection. Ed did manage to ride the stationary bike once or twice as per his physical therapist's recommendation. And he did a ton of walking on that new knee!

We didn't make too many shows as we were tired by the end of the day, and after a big dinner with wine or drink. Gosh we're getting old!
It was great to have our own balcony and we did sit outside a couple of times when the weather permitted.
Thanks for reading!
the view in Santorini as we enjoyed a snack and Santorini wine!
