A full day in Lake Louise. Our room is lovely and looks directly over the lake.
Again, the color of these glacier fed lakes is just beautiful. I’ve often seen pictures of this area and you think it must be photoshopped a bit; but no, that is the color, due to all that “rock flour” that comes off the mountains and ends up in the lakes.
We were treated to a walk on nearby Moraine Lake this morning with a naturalist. She was wonderful and entertaining. Moraine is also glacier fed and the beautiful turquoise color. The intensity of the color depends on how much “rock flour” and how deep the lake is.
Options after the hike included climbing the “rock pile”, which I did with Carol and Patty. Gorgeous view of the lake from the top so well worth the climb.
On the way down we saw a small animal which we thought was a chipmunk. It turns out they look chipmunks but is actually a Golden-mantled Ground Squirrel.
Back to the hotel with free time the rest of the day. After lunch and some downtime I walked along the lake with Carol and Patty while Ed stayed behind to write in his journal and I think take a little snooze. The walk enabled us to view the hotel looking back. Lots of visitors enjoying this area, dipping their feet in the water or canoeing on the lake, or soaking up the sun. Some even took the polar plunge! Brrrr…. but oh so refreshing on my hot feet.
We did put our feet in the water at the end of our walk and it was so refreshing on hot feet.
The flowers around these hotels are absolutely breathtaking - the cool nights certainly help them survive the summer. Some shopping in the many nice shoes and then a drink before dinner with Steve and Margy. Quick shower and then dinner with Steve and Margy as well. Yummy cheesy potato soup and filet mignon. Had to say no to dessert tonight 🙄
After a brief walk outside it was off to bed. A little packing before collapsing. 16000 steps today for me.
