A Final Day in Brisbane

For our final day in Australia we were so fortunate to be able to visit with true Australians! Our neighbor at home is from Australia and his parents, Al and Libby, still live in Brisbane. We had previously met them during several visits they had made to New Jersey. They were so kind to pick us up from the airport and spend the day with us.

We first drove to Mt. Coot-tha – a popular tourist destination that allows for a panoramic view of the city of Brisbane. It was a hot, sunny day and we enjoyed a sandwich while taking in the views.

From there we headed to the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary. Founded in 1927, this is the world’s first and largest koala sanctuary where over 130 koalas call home. We hand fed kangaroos and could enjoy watching them in their natural habitat. Ed enjoyed meeting Max!

Finally, we spent the remaining part of the day relaxing and chatting at the home of Al and Libby. It was quite hot out so we enjoyed getting out of the sun and visiting with Ken’s parents at their beautiful home. Enjoying a cold beer, followed by prawns and then a delicious light meal was the perfect way to relax before our long flight back to Hawaii.

Al and Libby are such gracious hosts and we so appreciated the home cooked meal and personal touch to our final day visiting “down under.” They brought us to the airport by 8:00 p.m. and we said our goodbyes!
